Specifically can we think about what the power consists of with regard to conservation biology and whether it’s always on the side of modernity or development or does it sometimes support wilderness or conservation or whatever? Can it be resisted or influenced? There’s a danger of this being a history of protest movements, which maybe isn’t what you are after. Following Fairy Creek Blockade on Instagram, definitely a power struggle there between opposing worldviews, but also between groups of people…. Probably your area is more philosophical than that, but maybe it is relevant.
Also, I agree your emotional responses are interesting and not to be dismissed. But you are very hard on yourself. Would you approach anyone else with such blistering scrutiny? Can you not trust your impulses a bit, sometimes? Is the Oxford lacuna about an absence of compassion for the self?

Actually one thing that I personally would find interesting, but possibly not in the scope of the book that you are writing, is how this how saga has influenced you up to now. Has it manifested itself in your life style, or your work, your choice of work. Your writing, maybe because it’s going through old journals, often seems to me a little like you have this detachment from what you’re describing, it’s like you’re watching a movie of your old life and adding a commentary, often without much emotion. I’ve actually found this a little unsettling, but it’s very effective. I mean it was a seemingly unemotional comment about coming to the conclusion that maybe the saola is in fact extinct and then doing a complete tack to wondering what movie to watch on the plane home that left me trying to hide my tears at the mechanics over a year ago. So in a way I’ve always been very curious how emotionally you have taken all this saga.
